Bharatmala Project : One of the biggest highway construction projects in India in history

Bharatmala Pariyojana program focuses on optimizing the efficiency of freight and passenger movement across the country. Under the scheme, several latest roads are going to be laid down within the nation.

Bharatmala Project is the largest highways project after NHDP, under which just about 55,000 km or highway roads were targeted across the country. Bharatmala will enhance connectivity on economic corridors, border areas, and far-flung areas with an aim of quicker movement of cargo and boosting exports. The project is predicted to produce nearly  20 million jobs as a result of the increased economic activity across the country. 

The main agencies tasked with the development are the National Highways Authority of India, National Highway and Industrial Development Corporation, and state structure departments. All key aspects of the scheme are going to be managed by the Road Transport and Highways Ministry of the country.
Bharatmala includes economic corridors, inter-corridor, and feeder routes. the entire length in phase 1 involves around 34,800 km. The newer roads are expected to extend the speed of vehicles and reduce supply chain costs from the present average of 18 percent to 6 percent.
